I began casting my own hands in 2011, and put them away. A year later, I held them in my hands turning them around and felt the totality, and the urgency of my life. As a gift, I began to cast my friends’ hands, then their friends, then strangers, not sure where it was leading. The creative undertaking has always been mysterious, often there are detours, ends unknown. Then it comes together, and I have learned to be patient and wait for the story to unfold. My vision is to incorporate these hands, collectively in a public sculpture. Women have long been under-represented in the public arts, both as artists and subjects. It is my desire to cast the hands of women who have made themselves useful in the world, the school teachers, mothers, grandmothers, young girls, CEO’s, factory workers, congresswomen, activists, house keepers, actresses, dancers, and so on.......
